Custom Framing

Mounting

Our preference is to mount prints "floated with a spacer" with 1" of space around the print. This is a method of framing that keeps the art fully visible in the frame, beautiful paper edges and all. This gives the illusion the piece is floating within the frame either on a mat or on a foam core lift. A spacer is added to the frame to keep the artwork from touching the plexiglass.  Floating requires adhering the print to an acid free foam core back or mat using acid free linen tape

Glazing

UV-filtering plexiglass is used for all frames, an option that has become the industry standard. Chances are you will be moving and plexiglass is lighter, scratch-resistant & shatter-resistant (essential for shipping). It also provides more UV protection and less-glare than glass. While a bit more expensive than glass, the quality and protection plexiglass offers is so good, most art sellers and galleries are now using it.

Simply Framed has invested in only the best shipping materials to ensure your order arrives safely.  They recently eliminated kraft wrapping paper from our frame packaging (excluding special request) to be more environmentally friendly. Your frame will ship wrapped in bubble wrap and secured inside a cardboard box with plastic bands, and will include all necessary hardware and hanging instructions.

Why Premium?

We decided to offer these more elevated, hand-finished frames for our artist collaboration editions. Because Adjective builds their frames with a sturdy wooden strainer on the back side, it means that their profiles can be slimmer - a look we think is a very elegant way to present contemporary prints. Additionally, while wood or white veneers are used in the Standard Framing options, all of Adjective’s pieces are hand built from solid hardwoods.

Lead Time

Once Adjective have your art in hand they aim to ship completed frames in 3 weeks. So, all in 5-6 weeks is a safe amount of time to expect your framed print accounting for all shipping time. We will get in touch if there is an exception.

Materials

Adjective builds custom-made contemporary hardwood frames for artists, collectors, galleries, and museums. Their standard line of moldings are milled from sustainably sourced hardwoods (often Ash, Maple, Walnut or Cherry) that are then custom stained or lacquered.

Glazing

UV-filtering plexiglass is used for all frames, an option that has become the industry standard. Plexiglass is lighter, scratch-resistant & shatter-resistant (essential for shipping). It also provides more UV protection and less glare than glass. While a bit more expensive than glass, the quality and protection plexiglass offers is so good, most art sellers and galleries are now using it almost exclusively.

Mounting

Our preference is to mount prints "floated with a spacer" with 1"-1.5” of space around the print depending on its size. This is a method of framing that keeps the art fully visible in the frame, beautiful paper edges and all. This gives the illusion that the print is floating within the frame. A 1/2” “spacer” is added between the frame and the glazing to keep the artwork from touching the plexiglass. Floating requires adhering the print to an acid free foam core back or mat using acid free linen tape.
